Bleaklow white out - 29th Jan- 4 miles. Crinja Walk.

An impromptu walk took me to Bleaklow, west of Glossop. I checked the Mountain Weather Information Service which told me the weather was cold but clear. I wanted to check a circular walk that had me beaten previously, well, I got lost. Now was the time to redress the balance.

A look back to Lady Clough Forest, made me think today was not going to "cold but clear".

A view from the Penine Way. Right of picture is Higher Shelf Stones, clouded in white fog/mist. I decided to cut the walk short and keep to the Penine Way to Bleaklow Head. The path became increasingly hard to follow. I thought it best to turn back before I lost sight of my own footprints in the snow.

From the same spot as the picture above. Lady Clough Plantation can just be seen. The only visible landmark from were I was stood. The deep peat hags made it impossible to mapread. It was like being stood in a pure white box. Discretion being the better part of valour I was heading back.

The return through Lady Clough Forest. I was not going to be the one Mountain Rescue were looking for. In three and a half hours of walking I covered about 4 miles. This Bleaklow circular walk beat me again.

Edale Circular - 22nd Jan - 8 miles. Crinja Walk.

A return to Edale to follow in the footsteps of our memorable October 2011 walk.

Looking back to the skyline from the bifurcation of paths just outside of Edale village.

Looking up Grindsbrook Clough from the path leading up to Ringing Roger.

A view south toward Lose Hill and Back Tor from the ascent to Ringing Roger.

Marty does not look comfortable sitting up there. That rock actually leans backwards toward a very steep drop.

Edale Ridge.

Ninja Wainwright.

Crowden Brook.

More unusual rock formations.

The Vale of Edale. The Penine Way path can be seen running through the centre of the valley.

The picture postcard footbridge at the bottom of Jacobs Ladder.

Black Ashop Moor - 2nd Jan - 8 miles. Crinja Walk.

The first walk of 2012. We left the cars at Birchen Clough for the short walk down the River Ashop to Fairbrook.

Fairbrook Naze in the Peak District is at the northern right hand corner of Kinder Scout.

Near the top of Fairbrook. Would you buy a used car off that lot?

The corner of Fairbrook Naze overlooking Woodlands Valley.

View from The Edge, looking toward Featherbed Moss and Glossop.

We picked a beautiful day for it thats for sure. The only chance we had to get out and get the legs going after Christmas.

One of the unusual rock formations around the Peak District. Looks like a bear climbing up from Black Ashop Moor.

A view back to Fairbrook Naze and the return path to the Snake Plantations.

The Boxing Glove Stones.

Looking towards Kinder Plateau from the top of William Clough. This route from Hayfield is for another day.

The return took us along the squelchfest of the Snake Path running along the River Ashop. No dry boots after that. The loudest cheer was watching Marty Fall go knee deep, I wonder why.

Clean boots time. Barry also looses his last Maltesa in the water, we were not going home till he got it back! A good, brisk first walk.
